How to get Erasmus+ funding

Erasmus+ pays for teachers and other education staff to take a course abroad — the course itself, the journey and the days away. Here is how it works, in plain words, with the official rules linked below.

What Erasmus+ KA1 pays for

Key Action 1 (learning mobility) funds staff of schools, adult-education and vocational organisations who train abroad. For a course, the grant is made of fixed amounts set in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide:

  • Course fee: €80 per participant per day of the course.
  • Travel: an amount based on the distance to Tenerife, higher when you travel green.
  • Your stay: a daily amount — for a stay in Spain, your National Agency sets it between €95 and €169 per day for staff.
  • Organisation: €100 per participant for the school or organisation that sends you.

Extra support is available for participants with fewer opportunities. Your National Agency confirms the exact amounts for your project.

Who applies

Your school or organisation applies — not the individual teacher — to the National Agency of its own country. There are three ways in:

  • With an Erasmus accreditation: an accredited school or organisation asks for its funds each year.
  • A short-term project: any eligible school or organisation can apply for one, without accreditation.
  • Through a consortium: a coordinator, such as a regional education authority, applies for its member schools — they need no accreditation of their own.

When to apply

The main deadline is usually 19 February at 12:00 Brussels time. Some National Agencies open a second round for short-term projects on 1 October. Check the dates for the current call on your agency’s website.

Courses funded this way last from 2 to 10 days — ours run for five, Monday to Friday.

Questions & answers

Who applies for the grant — me or my school?

Your school or organisation. A teacher cannot apply alone: the school applies to the Erasmus+ National Agency of its country, or takes part through a mobility consortium — for example one coordinated by a regional education authority.

When are the deadlines?

Usually 19 February at 12:00 Brussels time, and — only where the National Agency opens it — a second round on 1 October. Your agency’s website has the dates for the current call.

How much does the grant give for a course?

Fixed amounts set in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide: a course fee of €80 per participant per day, an amount for travel that depends on the distance, a daily amount for your stay, and €100 per participant for the school’s organisation of the mobility. Your National Agency confirms the exact figures for your project.
