Shaping the Future of Eco-Education: A Transformative Erasmus+ Experience in Tenerife

This past May, TeneLearning had the incredible opportunity to host a dynamic Learning, Teaching and Training event in Tenerife as part of the Erasmus+ Digital Eco-Leadership project (2024-I-RO01-KA220-SCH-000246390). Educators from Romania, Türkiye, North Macedonia, Portugal, and Spain came together to pilot an intellectual output and to explore how digital tools and sustainability can transform and improve a modern approach to education.

Each team presented key project themes, sparking discussions and tailored lessons plan with a help of digital and AI tools. These sessions weren’t just about sharing knowledge — they were about creating solutions all together.

The DigiEco project is focused on preparing both teachers and students for today’s environmental challenges. By providing educators with professional development, hands-on training, the initiative helps participants to integrate sustainability and digital innovation into their teaching. The goal to inspire students to think critically and take action for the planet.

This project was born out of a strong belief: that education must evolve to meet the environmental challenges of our time. We are combining eco-literacy with digital tools to be able to prepare our students to protect our beautiful planet. We’re empowering them to think critically, solve problems, and become active environmental leaders of tomorrow.

Our work here in Tenerife has reminded us that teachers are at the heart of this transformation. When we’re equipped with the right skills, we can guide students to meaningful learning that inspires real change. Over three immersive days, participants worked in international teams, designing lesson plans and experimenting with digital tools — both inside and outside the classroom. From the lush Botanical Garden of Puerto de la Cruz to the inspiring Finca Encuentro, a permaculture space where the principles of sustainability are not just taught, but lived. It was a powerful and grounding way to close the experience.

What made this experience special was the energy of the group: a mix of curiosity, creativity, and a shared mission to reimagine education. Beyond the tools and methods, it was the teachers’ passion that stood out — their drive to learn, support one another, and empower students to make a difference. To teach them not only how to make our planet a better place, but also to become better for our beloved planet.

Moments like these remind us that teachers are the real changemakers. With the right resources, time, and community, they can lead the way in shaping education that matters — both inside and outside the classroom.

TeneLearning is honored to be part of this journey. Together with our European partners, we’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries of digital eco-leadership. Here’s to more learning, collaboration, and growing the seeds of change — one lesson at a time.
